A study by Unesco points out that in the last twenty years, the higher education gross enrollment rate worldwide almost doubled, going from 19% to 38% between 2000 and 2018. This trend seems to have accelerated in the past few years as more students are moving through the higher education pipeline in developing countries. The World Bank states that globally in 2021 roughly 220 million students were enrolled in formal post-secondary education, more than doubling the enrollment figure from 2000. It is estimated that there will be 380 million higher education students by 2030.
Global back-to-college trends among students
As more people seek to pursue higher education, there has been a rising trend in ‘back-to-college’ numbers. Consulting firm Grand View Research stated that the global back-to-college market size was valued at USD 358.6 billion in 2021 and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.2% from 2022 to 2028.
Educational content preferences among global college students on Quora
Close to a fifth of Quora users across the globe are students, and they show a strong interest in online educational content and channels; 81.3% of college students and 71.7% of high school students on Quora using the internet for education and study-related purposes.
As much as 56.5% of school students and 64.1% of college students on Quora stated that they use education apps and websites and 55.8% of school students and 64.3% of college students on Quora had watched an educational video in the week before the survey.

Additionally, 17.1% of high school students and 16.3% of college students on Quora purchase digital mobile games while 22.2% of school students and 29.6% of college students on Quora purchase music streaming services.
